Wiltshire Police says it will continue operating as normal throughout the current heatwave, with high-visibility patrols carried out across the county.
The force said policing services will remain unchanged as extreme temperatures continue this week, with officers and staff maintaining a strong presence in both urban and rural areas.
Patrols will continue in town and city centres, as well as at popular beauty spots and locations with open water, as part of routine policing activity.
Assistant Chief Constable Liz Coles said: “High-visibility reassurance patrols will continue across Wiltshire this week as the county prepares for a period of extreme temperatures associated with the current heatwave.
“Policing services will continue as usual, with officers and staff maintaining a strong presence across both urban and rural areas.
“This includes patrols of town and city centres, as well as popular beauty spots and locations with open water, as part of normal daily duties.”
She added: “There will be a continued focus on addressing anti-social behaviour (ASB), including proactive action to seize alcohol and drugs where appropriate. Officers have a range of enforcement powers available and will not hesitate to act against individuals engaging in disruptive or inappropriate behaviour, including the use of Section 35 dispersal notices.”
The force is also urging people to take sensible precautions during the hot weather, including staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged periods in direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day and checking on vulnerable neighbours, friends and relatives.
ACC Coles said: “Ensuring public safety remains our priority, and we will continue working closely with blue-light services and partner agencies to take firm action against anyone committing offences or causing harm to others.
“In addition, we are collaborating with organisations such as the NHS and local authorities, who are providing advice and guidance to help people stay safe, cool, and well during the extreme weather.
“Wiltshire is open and ready to welcome visitors wishing to enjoy everything the county has to offer. We simply ask that everyone behaves responsibly and shows consideration for others.”
