A Wiltshire police officer is to compete at one of the UK’s top equestrian events.
PC Laura Hughes, who is on the Local Police Tasking Team, will ride her horse Paul at the London International Horse Show next Thursday (18 December).
The pair were originally named as reserves but were promoted to the main competition line-up at short notice.
The London International Horse Show is regarded as one of the most prestigious fixtures in the British equestrian calendar, attracting elite riders from across the country.
PC Hughes said: “I am so excited and honoured to represent Wiltshire Police at one of the most prestigious shows in the UK.”
She added: “I never dreamed of qualifying on my first attempt, within my first year of competing as a Police Officer—and while riding my horse bitless!
“Luckily his mouth injury has healed now, so I’ll actually have some brakes this time.
“I’ve not had much time to prepare as Paul has only just returned from his month-long winter break, so expectations are low.
“However, I’m looking forward to giving him a positive learning experience, competing alongside professionals and soaking up the electric atmosphere.”
