A Wiltshire MP has branded Matt Hancock a ‘self-important plonker’ after it was announced he signed up for I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!
James Grey, who represents the north of the county, said the former health secretary ‘thinks he’s a celeb’ – and approved his suspension from the Conservative Party.
In his recent weekly column, the local politician wrote: “Some of these mixed emotions are becoming ever more commonplace in Parliament, and politics, and may be harming respect for our Parliamentary democracy as a result.
“Matt Hancock plainly thinks he’s a ‘celeb’ and warmly deserved being chucked out by the Conservative Party. What a plonker.
“Those who self-importantly lord it over each other are asking to be brought down a peg or two, and there are plenty of sacked ministers around who prove it.
“They should remember that the people you see on the way up are the same ones you will see on the way back down again.”
He is not the first serving Tory MP to head into the jungle and have the whip removed. Nadine Dorries famously entered the camp in 2012 where she took part in two trials before being the first to be booted out.
There are calls for Mr Hancock to lose a portion of his annual salary for being a Member of Parliament while he’s in the Australian jungle – because he can’t serve his constituents whilst on the show.
His time in the jungle is likely to be uncomfortable, as 48% of those quizzed, via OnePoll, said they’ll vote for him in every single Bushtucker trial.
