White kitchen looking like a hospital room? Try these easy yet effective tweaks to liven it up

White kitchens have long been popular choices for versatility, brightness, and cleanliness. If you have a white kitchen, you likely have your reasons why you made it this way – reasonably pertinent reasons. First things first, you’ve designed a kitchen that feels cosier and airier than it could’ve been with dark colours or chaotically-chosen cabinets, flooring, and so on. Secondly, you have an empty slate to start building on and adding personal touches. While all-white kitchens may seem exaggeratedly sanitary and spiritless, they’re often the best starting point for creating a place that speaks for you and your aesthetic preferences.

There are a few easy yet super effective ways to do so – which won’t break the bank or take days to lead to a satisfying result. That being said, are you ready to discover these tweaks?

Think new cabinetry

Lower-quality white cabinetry can deteriorate gravely in time. At the same time, the wear and tear that surfaced in time may make a once-superb set of cabinets look depressingly outmoded. If you haven’t changed your kitchen cabinetry in decades, could have invested in a better one, mistreated it, and so on, maybe your kitchen is not the problem. It might be that you need a new white kitchen that streamlines your everyday chores, is highly durable and sturdy, and looks stylish at the same time. The market teems with quality modern kitchens that are durable, practical, and easy to maintain, requiring no overly demanding care or unique solutions. You just have to find the right provider to meet your needs. And we can’t emphasize “needs enough”.

The kitchen is one of the most used rooms in the bulk of homes and the one that stands the most wear and tear. Depending on how much traffic yours takes, you’ll need one that fulfils different demands. You don’t need to compromise, however. A durable one will cause you no headaches as to how you use it and make everyday tasks like cooking and cleaning a breeze.

Patterns and prints

Patterns and prints can break the monotony in all-white kitchens and make them feel more dynamic. Fortunately, you have unlimited options to add some personality and make the space unique to your style. For instance, if you have been considering changing the flooring for a while, you can go big by choosing patterned flooring. Consider tiles with geometric or floral patterns to create a striking visual element.

Going humbler, you can browse through printed fabrics, using patterned cushions, curtains, or tablecloths for a playful touch. Apply removable wallpaper with a subtle design to one wall for a chic upgrade, or combine patterns of your liking to add that unique edge you’re seeking. There’s a sea of prints and patterns you can vet – just determine what feel you’d like the most by assessing the feels that various choices give you and start sorting options out from there.

Pops of colour

You shouldn’t think about your white kitchen as a dull space that lacks attitude. Instead, consider it the perfect black canvas to start embellishing by experimenting with colours. You have all the freedom to create a kitchen in two colours, where white-ish hues prime and complementing joyful colours add interest. You can bring your space to life by painting a single wall in a bolt shade, such as hunter green, dandelion yellow, Tiffany blue, burnt sienna, and the list can go on. This will help you create a focal point without much financial or physical effort.

At the same time, you can rely on accessories to jazz up your space. From bright kitchen towels to curtains to rugs, the list is endless and should depend on your personal taste.

Last but not least, think of adding colourful paintings or framed prints. These can bring that “je ne sais quoi” that you’re looking for in an instant.

Mirroring elements

One of the main reasons why people shift from livelier colours to white hues is that they want to make the space look larger and airier. If this change in perspective is also what you pursued, but too much focus on this effect left you overlooking aspects related to style and aesthetics, you couldn’t have it more manageable. You can add two or a few creative tweaks like an art piece, a colourful fruit bowl, a contrasting ottoman, and so on – and place a mirror strategically to reflect them and make the space look larger and livelier without consuming extra space.

Mirroring the colourful accents and elements in your space will boost its appeal and openness, creating a stylish room that will give most features a stylish edge.

Personal touches

Colourful kitchens may restrict homeowners from adding their personal mark if that consists of elements that completely contradict the main style or colour palette of the space. For instance, imagine making paintings on wooden pieces and having a super modern kitchen with glossy touches and futuristic cabinetry. Hardly can some wooden pieces complement your space if they’re not hinting in the same aesthetic direction.

Fortunately, your white room is likely prepped to host some things you keep close to your heart, whether they’re printed pictures, paintings, sculptures, souvenirs, and so on. Please make a list of your most beloved items and select a few ones that will make sense in your kitchen, finding the right spots to host them.

Lastly, add warmth with wood to counterbalance white’s crispness.

Returning to our main take, spaces that rely too much on white can feel cold and stark. So, what element will recreate the exact opposite feel? Elements that exude warmth and naturalness. This is where wood comes into the equation.

To balance the coolness of a white kitchen, introduce natural warmth with wood. Wood tones can reduce the sterile appearance of white and add some extra texture and character.
