A police officer was assaulted whilst attending reports of a disturbance at a Swindon town centre hotel.

Wiltshire Police received a call about two young people being abusive towards staff at the Travelodge in Princes Street on Saturday evening (6 March).

Officers were sent to the scene at around 6pm, where a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and possession of class A drugs.

A 16-year-old reportedly assaulted a police officer during the incident and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

Approximately eight police vehicles — cars and vans — were spotted attending the scene by several of Wiltshire 999s’ readers.

A spokesperson for the force has confirmed both remain in custody at Gablecross police station.
