Two machetes have been recovered by police after a moped crashed in Swindon.
Shortly after 11pm on Sunday (9 June), officers witnessed the suspected stolen bike – carrying a rider and a pillion – lose control and fall to the ground.
On noticing the presence of police at the incident in Cheney Manor Road, close to the junction for Beech Avenue, both males fled on foot.
They made off in opposite directions – one along Akers Way and the other towards Pinehurst – and then entered woodland.
The officers gave chase, but one was assaulted and both males escaped. Two machetes were recovered from the scene.
The National Police Air Service helicopter was called in to assist with the search.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “If you saw the incident or have information that could help with our enquiries please contact us on 101 quoting reference number 54240067118.
