MORE ON THIS: 18-year-old man named locally as victim of brutal stabbing in Swindon
A murder probe has been launched in Swindon following a fatal stabbing in broad daylight.
A young man was pronounced dead by medics after being knifed in Torun Way in Haydon End, near Thamesdown Drive, at around 1.30pm today (Sunday).
The road has been cordoned off as a crime scene following the death – with detectives and forensics attending the location as part of the major investigation.
A white tent has been erected and placed over the man’s body. Two bicycles can also be seen within the cordoned area.
Wiltshire Police say two people have been arrested following the incident and are being held on suspicion of murder.
Earlier, the force said that witnesses told of how the stabbing was perpetrated by two males in balaclavas, carrying “large knives”.
The pair are also said to have fled the scene on bicycles – which may have been electric.
The road is expected to remain closed for the foreseeable future. Some local residents are able to access their homes on foot if they are guided through the cordon by an officer.
Anyone with information that can help detectives with their enquiries should call 101 quoting Operation Glendale.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker, of the Major Crime Investigation Team said: “This is a hugely concerning crime in which a young man has sadly lost his life.
“We are urgently appealing to members of the public who may have information which could support our investigation to contact us.
“We understand that this incident will be of concern to the local residents and we are utilising every available resource within our organisation to identify those responsible for this murder.
“Members of the public will notice an increased police presence across the whole of Swindon in response to this incident. Please do not be alarmed by this and I would encourage you to speak with officers if you have information that will help our investigation.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of this young man.”
