Four people are in hospital following a serious road traffic collision near an army barracks.
Emergency services responded to reports of the two-vehicle crash in The Packway, Larkhill, at around 3am this morning (Saturday).
Wales Air Ambulances was scrambled to the scene, but it was stood down just miles from the incident – as it flew over Imber on Salisbury Plain.
Four men sustained injuries in the head-on collision, involving a black Volkswagen Passat and a white Volkswagen T-Roc, near the Royal School of Artillery.
A rear-seat passenger — a man in his 30s — in the Passet, a Wiltshire Council licenced taxi, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital for critical care.
The drivers of both vehicles and a second passenger in the taxi, aged in their 20s, 30s and 40s, sustained less serious injuries and are being treated at Salisbury District Hospital.
Wiltshire Police say no arrests have been made.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service sent two crews from Amesbury and Salisbury.
The Packway, between Lightfoot Road and Alexander Road, will remain closed in both directions for several hours. It is not likely to reopen until this afternoon.
