A Swindon woman needed hospital treatment after a man launched an attack on her.

The 19-year-old sustained facial injuries in an assault in the Kingswood Avenue area between 3.30am and 4.15am yesterday (Sunday, 18 September).

Police say the man, aged in his 20s, is known the the victim and was arrested in connection with the incident, which took place on a footpath near Buckhurst Field.

He was held in custody on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm – and has since been released on conditional bail while further enquiries are carried out.

PC George Mason said: “We believe that shortly after the woman was assaulted, two women came to her aid from a nearby house.

“Further to this, we also believe the incident took place within earshot and view of multiple homes and members of the public could have been woken by the incident.

“If this was you, we would be keen to hear from you as part of our investigation.”
