A traffic light in Swindon has been yeeted into retirement after a drink-drive crash.
Emergency services responded to a road traffic collision on Thamesdown Drive, outside The Blunsdon Arms, in the early hours of today (Saturday).
Officers partially closed the road as an ambulance crew assessed the driver of the vehicle involved – before they were arrested for two offences.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “The driver of the vehicle has been arrested on suspicion of taking without owners consent and drink driving.
“He has been taken to hospital as a precaution.”
In a statement, local councillor Leanne Stevenson announced that the set of traffic lights are out of use.
She wrote: Thamesdown Drive lights not working. drive carefully.
“The traffic lights are damaged and not working at the Thamesdown Drive and Elstree Way junction by the Blunsdon Arms pub.
“This is a busy shopping period with heavier traffic, and icy roads add extra risk.
“The issue has been reported to Swindon Borough Council Highways. Reference Number: 4799364.
“Please slow down, approach with caution, and allow more stopping distance. Please share this to warn others.”
