The government has today announced that Wiltshire is to move into Tier 3 from New Year’s Eve whilst Swindon is to be plunged into a Tier 4 lockdown.
Health secretary Matt Hancock said the NHS is under “very significant pressure”, with more than 21,000 people in hospital being treated for COVID-19.
“Almost all remaining areas will be escalated to Tier 3”, he added.
Those living in the Wiltshire Council authority area will be subject to Tier 3 restrictions. Residents in the Swindon borough will face strict Tier 4 rules – not dissimilar from a lockdown.
Under Tier 4, people are told to stay at home and all non-essential retail must close.
