A Swindon man killed in horror crash on the M4 this morning (Sunday) has been named – as tributes to him flow in on social media.
Dan Conway was pronounced dead after emergency services were scrambled to a single-vehicle crash on motorway at around 2am.
The 32-year-old father, from Swindon, was reportedly in the passenger seat of a black Mercedes when it veered into a tree outside Leigh Delamere Services.
The driver, a man from Swindon, was rushed to hospital with significant injuries. He’s understood to have undergone major surgery earlier today.
In a tribute on social media, BBC Make A Difference award winner and drug addiction mentor, Paul Simmons wrote: “I wanna say RIP to Dan Conway one of the first people who had my back in Swindon.
“We were both lost in addiction but individually found our way out.
“So to [hear] you died like that is just terrible. Tonight I think of your entire family. Sleep well bro.”
Another penned: “Rip Dan Conway I remember the time we had out drinking in town fly high brother.”
A friend added: “So sad to hear, Rest in peace Dan Conway thoughts are with your Family especially your little man.”
One wrote: “Gobsmacked hear about Dan Conway passing!!! Hadn’t seen you in a while!!! Lovley lad. Had done so well and always had that cheeky chappy smile.
“Life really is just so short and can be taken at any time… R.I.P mate. Sending love to all his family, child, friends and loved ones xxx”
In a statement earlier, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We are sad to report that a 32-year-old man has died following a road traffic collision involving a single vehicle on the M4, in the early hours of this morning.
“The man’s next of kin have been informed and they are receiving support from specially trained officers. Our thoughts are with them.
“Another man who was in the car is receiving hospital treatment for serious injuries.
“The collision took place at about 2am this morning (30/11) on the eastbound carriageway of the M4 between Junction 17 and Junction 18.
“Wiltshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Team are appealing for any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam footage taken from the time to contact them on 01225 694597 quoting log number 40 of today’s date (30/11). Alternatively email [email protected].”
