An ex-Swindon Advertiser journalist has pleaded guilty to assaulting a child.
35-year-old Daniel Wood appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates Court today (Tuesday).
The Crown Prosecution Service dropped a charge of child cruelty in favour of a new offence.
Subsequently, the defendant pleaded guilty to assault by beating of a child at an address in Swindon in November 2025.
He is due to return to Cheltenham Magistrates Court on 8 October for sentencing.
Wood, of Ashbury Avenue, Swindon, was released on bail with conditions not to contact directly or indirectly the victim or a named witnesses.
The defendant is an award-winning journalist, working at the Swindon Advertiser as the Digital Audience and Content Editor at the time of the assault. He has since left the publication.
The case was previously opened at Swindon Magistrates Court, but it was moved out of the county due to Wood’s previous reporting of local courts.
A reporting restriction is in place, preventing some details of this case from being published.
