A man’s been arrested after a car left the road and caught fire near Swindon.
Emergency services were called to the scene in The Fox, Purton, at around 6am this morning (5 September) following reports of the collision.
A car left the road and overturned before catching fire.
Firefighters from Calne Fire Station, who were covering for crews in Swindon whilst they attended a fatal house fire, exstingished the flames.
The two occupants of the car – a man and his girlfriend – managed to free themselves prior to 999 workers arriving at the incident.
A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Thankfully two occupants managed to release themselves from the car before our arrival or this incident could of had a different outcome.
“Both occupants only suffered minor injuries. Unfortunately the driver had been drink driving and was arrested at the scene.
“Drink driving kills. Don’t be stupid, don’t do it. Don’t get in a car with someone that has been drinking.”
Wiltshire Police confirmed a 19-year-old man failed the roadside breath test and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
The suspect was taken to Great Western Hospital as a precaution before being transferred to custody. His passenger, his girlfriend, suffered minor injuries.
