A security guard has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after he tackled a man to the floor outside Asda in Trowbridge and fatally injured him.
Police were called to The Shires car park just after 3:00pm on Thursday 9 February, to reports a man was seriously injured following an altercation with another man.
Sadly the injured man died at the scene.
The man who died, aged 30 and of no fixed address, was suspected of committing a number of shoplifting offences in the Trowbridge area. Formal identification is yet to be carried out and a post mortem is due to be carried out today.
DCI Jeremy Carter said: “The man arrested is a security guard from a local store. He tackled the suspected shoplifter causing a number of glass bottles he was concealing to smash. This caused a significant injury to the man, who despite the best efforts from paramedics, sadly died.”
The security guard, aged 20 and from the Trowbridge area, has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and remains in police custody pending further enquiries.
