UPDATE: Police arrived at the scene to find that the lorry had not hit the bridge, rather it was attempting to turn around. Emergency services have been stood town and train lines are reopening. The road remains blocked at this time.
999 crews are responding after ‘a lorry hit a railway bridge’ on the Wiltshire border.
Emergency services were called to the scene on the B3108 Winsley Hill, in Limpley Stoke, near Bradford on Avon, at around 11.45am today (Thursday).
Local police and the British Transport Police have been deployed alongside teams from Network Rail to inspect the damage.
The road is currently blocked in both directions and could remain closed for some hours. It’s not yet clear if anyone’s been injured in the incident.
Train services between Bristol and Westbury are affected, with the line closed at this time.
A spokesperson for Great Western Railway said: “We’re sorry for the delay to your journey.
“A vehicle has struck a railway bridge in the Limpley Stoke area between Bath Spa and Freshford.
“Network Rail have specialist staff on their way to the bridge to inspect it for any damage. Until this has been done we are unable to run trains over the bridge.”
