The railway line between Swindon and Didcot Parkway is likely to remain closed until later this afternoon due to the complex nature of a fatal incident.
A person was hit by a Great Western Railway train in South Marston at shortly before 10am this morning, but due complexities faced by emergency services and Network Rail workers at the scene, it’s taking longer than usual to clear and reopen the line.
Usually, after a non-suspicious death on the railway, lines are reopened within two hours.
Today, the train is being spilt with passengers in the front carriages being evacuated to the rear carriages to be returned back to Swindon railway station.
The front of the train will remain stationary on the tracks whilst emergency services work to recover the body and clear the line.
Due to the location of the incident, the line is blocked in both directions.
