Police are to patrol a Wiltshire village for lorry drivers who are ignoring a road rule.
The force has recieved reports of HGVs travelling through Ashton Keynes despite the 7.5-ton weight limit – following the closure of the B4696.
The busy road is closed between Cox’s Hill and Gosditch – which also serves as a diversion for cars, vans and small lorries.
Roadworks on the B4696 are expected to take place for several weeks, causing some disruption for motorists.
Officers have been sent to patrol the area, and fine lorry drivers who break the weight limit restriction.
In a statement, a Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “The road is closed on the B4696 at Ashton Keynes between Gosditch and Cox’s Hill for several weeks for road works.
“This has been caused issues on Gosditch as it is a narrow lane running past the school. There have been reports of lorries ignoring the 7.5 ton weight limit.
“Wiltshire Council have been informed of this issue. We will patrol this area and deal with any flouting of the 7.5 ton restriction.”
