Police are investigating after a stranger asked a schoolgirl to ‘go with him’ near Trowbridge.
Officers were called to the incident in Cottles Barton, Staverton, on Saturday evening (23 September).
A man reportedly approached a ten-year-old girl and attempted to get her to go with him.
The girl has fortunately run away from the man, Wiltshire Police said in a statement.
Searches were carried out immediately following the incident, but no one was located.
The force has upped patrols in the area and local schools have issued a warning to parents.
In one letter, a school spokesperson asked children who walk home alone “go straight home, or come back to school if they have a concern”.
PC Rachel Jackson said: “We understand that this is a concerning incident for the local community, but please be assured that officers have conducted multiple lines of enquiry into it.
“A targeted patrol schedule of the area has been put in place and we will continue to maintain a high visibility policing presence in the local area.
“Parents please remember to remind your children to always be careful around strangers.
“I’d also encourage anyone who has been involved in a similar type of incident or is aware of one to report it to us on 101 or via our website.
“If a crime is in progress, always call 999.”
