A driver flipped his car in a dramatic crash on a roundabout in Chippenham.

Emergency services were called to a single-vehicle road traffic collision on the A350 at around 9.30pm on Saturday evening (28 June).

A red MG 4 was reportedly travelling along the A4 towards Chequers Roundabout when the driver failed to negotiate the busy junction ahead.

According to an eyewitness, the driver carried straight on into the roundabout, flipping the car upside down – before it came to rest back on its wheels.

At the height of the incident, there were two armed response vehicles, two local police vehicles, an ambulance crew and two fire engines on scene.

It’s understood the injured driver, a man aged in his 20s, was helped from his damaged vehicle by a member of the public before officers and medics provided treatment.

The man was put onto a rigid stretcher and placed in a neck brace before being taken into the ambulance. He was taken to hospital for further care. His injuries aren’t thought to be serious.

It’s claimed the man had been drinking prior to the smash – an investigation is ongoing.

The road was partially blocked for around three hours while 999 crews worked and the vehicle was recovered. However, traffic flowed well past the incident.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police confirmed that officers were called to reports of an MG 4 overturning on Chequers Roundabout.

The force said that the driver, a man aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital for treatment.
