The police helicopter kept Swindon residents awake at just before midnight last night.
Police officers attempted to pull over a vehicle on Thamesdown Drive at just after 11pm, but it failed to stop for them and a pursuit was authorised.
But the silver Vauxhall Astra fled from police, and the helicopter was called into to help located it.
A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “A pursuit was authorised and assistance was provided by the police helicopter but unfortunately the vehicle was not located.”
