A woman has been detained under the Mental Health Act in Swindon.
Police officers were called to an incident in Cricklade Road, Gorse Hill, at around 3pm this afternoon (28 June).
A woman was said to be suffering a “mental health episode” and was detained for her own safety.
Local residents noticed at least five police vehicles present at the scene near Iceland supermarket.
The Mental Health Act allows police to detain a person who requires urgent treatment for a mental health disorder and are at risk of harm to themselves or others.
Under the law, they will be taken to a place of safety for an assessment by an approved mental health professional and a doctor – who can decide if they are discharged or admitted into hospital.
Wiltshire Police confirmed they attended the incident and detained a woman under the Mental Health Act, but said it was “inappropriate for us to comment further”.
