A man was detained in the middle of a busy main road in Swindon this morning.

Seven police units were called to the scene on Drakes Way at just before 11am, following concerns for the safety of a man who was seen pacing in the middle of the road.

THE MAN WAS PLACED ON A STRETCHER

Five officers were witnessed holding down the man, who has been placed in handcuffs and leg restraints on the central reservation near the junction with Ocotal Way.

At around 11.15am, paramedics arrived at the scene and took the man to hospital, while accompanied by police officers in the back of the emergency ambulance.

A pool of blood on the central reservation was cleaned up using a bottle of water.
