A central Swindon road has been closed after two women were assaulted, police have confirmed.

Alexandra Road, off Station Road, has been closed by police in all directions following the serious incident at around 7.30pm (17 February).

A police dog unit is at the incident and police officers are guarding the street, with nearby alleyways cordoned off.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We were called at about 7pm this evening to reports of two women being physically assaulted in Station Road, Swindon.

“We closed Alexandra Road to allow a dog unit to search the area of the incident.

“This is an ongoing incident and we will provide further updates where appropriate.”

The women are not believed to have suffered any significant injuries in the attack.
