A person has died after being struck by a train near Royal Wootton Bassett.
Emergency services responded to reports of a casualty on the main line near Junction 16 shortly after 2.30pm this afternoon (Easter Sunday).
Around ten police vehicles, two fire engines, an ambulance, an ambulance rapid response vehicle and Great Western Air Ambulance were in attendance.

The casualty was located and pronounced dead on arrival – with the train line closed in both directions between Swindon and Chippenham.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police confirmed that officers were called to “reports of a casualty on the tracks” near Swindon.
Adding that paramedics also attended, but “sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene”.
The force said that the incident is “not being treated as suspicious”. A file will be prepared for the coroner.
