UPDATE: Elderly woman ‘struck by multiple vehicles’ in Caen Hill fatal crash
A pedestrian has been killed in a crash on a main road in Devizes – as Storm Claudia battered the county with heavy rain.
Emergency services responded to a road traffic collision on the A361 Caen Hill at around 6pm yesterday (Friday, 14 November).
Wiltshire 999s understands that a pedestrian was struck by at least one vehicle. 999 crews attended the scene, but they were pronounced dead.
It happened around 150 metres west of the junction for Mayenne Place, with the person reportedly being hit having entered the carriageway.
It’s not yet known if Storm Claudia, which brought persistent heavy rain to Wiltshire throughout the day, played a part in the incident.
Wiltshire Police launched a forensic collision investigation. As a result, the major route was shut in both directions overnight. The road is likely to remain closed until after midday.
A spokesperson said: “The A361 at Caen Hill, Devizes, remains closed this morning as officers continue to investigate a serious road traffic collision that occurred yesterday evening.
“We anticipate the road will remain closed for up to six more hours and we will let you know once it has reopened.”
