Two overweight vehicles have been taken off the M4 – with heavy fines handed out.
The drivers were stopped by eagle-eyed traffic officers from Wiltshire Police.
The vehicles were taken to a weighbridge facility, where they were found to be significantly overweight
Despite being limited to 3.5 tonnes, the blue car transporter – carrying a white Mercedes – was found to weigh 4.4 tonnes. The driver was fined £600.
The white van was weighed in at 4.6 tonnes. The driver was fined £900.
The vehicles won’t be able to be driven away until they are returned to a legal weight.
A spokesperson for the force’s Roads Policing Unit said: “[We] spotted these on the M4 and thought they looked a bit heavy. Legal max for both is 3.5 tonnes.
“Blue transporter weighed in at 4.4T and the white van was a hefty 4.6T. Respective fines of £600 and £900.
“They won’t be going anywhere until the excess weight is removed.”
