The mother of a man stabbed in Devizes has praised the emergency services.
Kavan Whelan suffered knife wounds in an attack on Saturday (29 June) – with police, paramedics and Wiltshire Air Ambulance rushing to the scene.
He was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, where he was treated in critical care, but has since been moved to a ward as he recovers.
Talking to Wiltshire 999s, the victim’s mother said: “I am so grateful to all the emergency services who were involved in Saturday’s serious incident in Devizes.
“My son was seriously injured, and they saved his life.
“Anyone who puts the emergency services down are so wrong — they risk their lives to save ours.”
“I am so glad those brave police officers got the suspect and he didn’t manage to get away.”
She added: “My son is stable and out of critical care, but he is still being closely monitored. He is being well looked after by the hospital.”
26-year-old Kubilay Bostanli, was arrested next to Kavan. He’s since been charged with attempted murder, harassment, assaulting Simon Webb and assaulting PC Crabbe.
At Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on Monday (1 July), the defendant, of Anzio Road, Devizes, was remanded in custody until a plea and trial preparation hearing next month.
