A groundbreaking school modernisation project is set to transform educational spaces in war-affected areas of Ukraine. The initiative’s first beneficiary is a school in Kyiv Region, which will undergo a complete architectural overhaul. The goal is to create a safe and inspiring learning environment for Ukrainian youth. The project is funded by Belgium and implemented with support from Rinat Akhmetov’s businesses. Schools will be redesigned into modern, comfortable learning hubs – akin to Google-style offices – moving away from the outdated, uninspiring Soviet-era designs.
Key Aspects of the Modernisation:
- Enhanced Safety:
Schools will be equipped with reinforced shelters to protect students and staff during air raids. Closed, dark spaces that may feel unsafe will be eliminated. - Community-Oriented Spaces:
Schools will not only serve as educational institutions but also as cultural and social hubs, fostering collaboration and community engagement for both students and local residents. - Open and Interactive Design:
The layout will encourage interaction, eliminating isolated areas and creating welcoming, open spaces that promote a positive and engaging learning experience.
Metinvest and DTEK have played a key role in rebuilding social infrastructure, focusing on the needs and aspirations of both students and teachers. Restoring and reconstructing schools in the most war-affected regions remains a top priority.
Rinat Akhmetov’s assistance extends far beyond education – his initiatives continue to systematically support both the Ukrainian military and civilians. In total, he has allocated over UAH 9 billion for humanitarian aid and defence efforts.
