A man and a woman have been convicted following a serious domestic assault on a woman in Melksham.

Kylie Taylor, 35, of Market Place, Melksham, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent, threats to kill, and assault by beating.

Leigh Parham, 45, of High Street, Melksham, was found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent following a four-day trial at Salisbury Crown Court, which culminated on Friday (05/04).

The charges relate to incidents on October 5 and 6 last year.

On October 5, the victim, a woman in her 30s who was known to both Taylor and Parham, was punched by Taylor.

The following day, inside a flat in Melksham, Taylor and Parham attacked the victim with a knife, causing injuries to her hands, arms and back.

The incident was reported to the police and Taylor and Parham were swiftly arrested the same day by officers, who subsequently located the knife used in the toilet in Parham’s flat.

Crime Investigator Keith Harford said: “This was a serious, unprovoked assault with a knife on the victim who was known to Taylor and Parham, leaving her with injuries on her hands and arms after she tried to protect herself.

“Parham also stabbed the victim in the back.

“The defendants’ actions were disgraceful, and it is fortunate that the victim’s injuries were not a lot worse.

“I’d like to pay tribute to the victim for her bravery in the immediate aftermath of the incident and over the past few months in the lead up to the trial.

“Tackling violence remains a Force priority under Chief Constable Catherine Roper and we are determined to bring down the number of incidents involving weapons and bladed articles.”

Taylor and Parham have been remanded into custody and are due to be sentenced on May 27.
