A man’s body has been found in a car outside a crematorium in Wiltshire.
Police were searching for Greg Halpin, a 58-year-old man missing from Purton, when his vehicle – a blue Hyundai i20 – was discovered parked up.
Officers attended the scene at North Wiltshire Crematorium, near Royal Wootton Bassett, at before 11am this morning (Wednesday).
Paramedics were also tasked, but the man was pronounced dead and an investigation into the circumstances of his death was launched.
This afternoon a white and blue tent was erected around the vehicle, with two forensic investigators photographing the scene and gathering evidence.
The crematorium remained open and services continued as usual. Police remained at the location for several hours, however, it’s understood the scene has since been cleared.
“We can confirm that a man has been found deceased in the search for missing Purton man Gregory”, a spokesperson for the force said.
They continued: “Officers have been carrying out enquiries after he was reported missing yesterday evening.
“Sadly, the man was discovered this afternoon, and while formal identification has not yet taken place, the family of Gregory have been informed.
“Our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time. Formal identification will take place in due course.
“Although it is early stages, we do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
