Man, woman and baby rushed to hospital after serious crash near Box Tunnel

Three people – including a baby – have been rushed to hospital following a serious crash.

Emergency services were called to a two-vehicle road traffic collision involving on the A4 Box Hill, in Box, at around 4.30pm this afternoon (Monday).

A Faresaver bus and a Volkswagen Golf were involved in the impact close to the Box Tunnel viewpoint.

All three occupants of the car – a man, a woman and a baby – were taken to hospital for urgent care.

At least one of the casualties was taken to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol. One patient is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the bus escaped any injuries and there were no passengers on board at the time.

Five ambulances, two Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) ambulance crews and numerous fire crews from Wiltshire and Bath were in attendance.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance also attended the scene, with the helicopter touching down in a nearby field.

The road is likely to remain closed for several hours whilst collision investigation work is undertaken.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage of the collision should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit by calling 101 and quoting log 192 of today’s date (6 March).

Statement from Wiltshire Police

“We attended a road traffic collision on the A4, Box around 4.30pm this afternoon involving a bus and a car.

“The bus was not thought to be carrying any passengers at the time.

“One person was taken to hospital by air ambulance to be treated for life threatening injuries.

“Two other people were also taken to hospital to be treated for injuries.

“The road has been closed in all directions from The Bassetts junction while investigation work is carried out. Please seek alternative routes.

“No arrests have been made.”
