A man found unconscious in a Swindon street as died, Wiltshire Police has confirmed.
Emergency services were called to Overbrook, in Eldene, before 2am on Friday (21 June) following reports of an unresponsive casualty.
The man, aged in his 70s, was rushed to hospital for treatment but was later pronounced dead. His next of kin have been informed.
Before the man’s death, a 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and released on bail as detectives investigated the incident.
The force said it is “keep an open mind” as to whether or not this was a murder, adding that “further investigation needs to take place to confirm the gentleman’s cause of death”.
On Friday, forensics combed the man’s home – which is close to where he was found.
Detective Inspector Penny Andrews said: “Our thoughts are with the gentleman’s relatives at this difficult time.
“We are actively investigating the circumstances and keeping an open mind about what may have taken place. We need to hear from anyone who was in the area on Friday night and may have seen anything suspicious.
“We would also like to hear from anyone who may have driven past and have dash cam footage or nearby householders who may have doorbell camera recordings.”
