A man was stabbed in neck in Swindon town centre on Sunday afternoon (24 July).

Emergency services were called to the incident in The Parade at around 3pm following reports of the vicious attack near the Costa store.

The victim, a man in his 30s, suffered a serious stab wound to his neck. The victim remains in hospital but his condition is described as stable.

A short time later, armed police officers were tasked with arresting the suspect – attending his home in Whitehead Street at around 3.45pm.

The alleged attacker, Lee James Milne, 30, was arrested and remanded in police custody.

He is due to appear at Swindon Magistrates Court today, charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of cannabis.

Following the incident, Detective Inspector Rachel Hardy, from Swindon CID, said: “I know this incident will have caused concern amongst the local community, particularly given that it occurred during a busy Sunday afternoon in the town centre.

“I am pleased to report that we have made a swift arrest and now have a suspect in custody.

“Our enquiries are ongoing, and we would urge anyone who witnessed the incident and who has not yet spoken to police, to please make contact.”

Anyone with information should call Swindon CID on 101, quoting log 212 of today (24/07). Alternatively you can call CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
