A man has been charged after a police officer was seriously assaulted in Swindon.
Sean Berry faces an allegation of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent following an incident in Walcot on Tuesday evening (3 September).
Officers were responding to reports of an altercation in Naunton Road, with the 30-year-old arrested in connection with the disorder.
It’s claimed that the defendant, of Somerville Road, assaulted constable Connor Robbins as he resisted arrest – sustaining a serious facial injury.
The officer was taken to hospital for treatment of the wound, which included stitches.
Berry appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday), having been remanded in police custody.
Due to the charge being inditable only, the case was sent to Swindon Crown Court.
He was released on bail until the plea and trial preparation hearing on 4 October.
Berry remains under investigation in relation to the initial disorder officers were called to – having been arrested on suspicion of threats to kill and criminal damage.
