A man ‘seen hitting his dog’ was swiftly arrested by police in Swindon.

The incident is alleged to have taken place outside Aldi in Drove Road on Tuesday (18 July).

When officers attended the scene, a man, aged in his 50s, was arrested close to the Magic Roundabout and taken to custody – before later being released on bail.

The dog involved is reported to have been seized and is being kept at police-approved kennels.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We have arrested a man on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal following an incident near County Road, Swindon at around 6.30pm on July 18.

“The animal fortunately didn’t suffer any serious injuries.

“The man, aged in his 50s, has been bailed while enquiries continue.”
