A man has died after an air ambulance was called to a serious medical incident in Calne.
Emergency services were called to a report of a collapsed male on the pavement in Sand Pit Road at around 7.30pm yesterday evening (Friday, 2 September).
It’s understood members of the public initially provided first aid, with an off-duty nurse carrying out CPR whilst awaiting the arrival of 999 crews.
Wiltshire Air Ambulance landed in a field just metres from the scene, allowing its specially-trained critical care team to tend to the patient.
Two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and several police vehicles were also at the incident.
The road remained open to motorists and pedestrians as first responders battled to save the man’s life. Despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after 8pm.
Wiltshire Police confirmed that a man, aged in his 40s, died at the scene – and said his cause of death was believed to be a medical episode.
Unconfirmed reports from witnesses suggest the man was jogging at the time of his collapse.
Rumours of a stabbing, which were circulated by children in the area, were untrue.
