A man has died after being hit by a car on a busy junction in Chippenham.
Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian in Avenue La Fleche at around 5.20pm on Sunday afternoon (17 December).
The victim, a local man aged in his 40s, was struck by a white BMW at the junction for Gladstone Road – sparking an major 999 response as medics battled to save him.
Despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed.
The driver of the car, a man, was uninjured and passed roadside drink and drug testing. He was taken home by police and no arrests were made.
Specialist crash detectives are working to establish the facts, with a full-scale forensic collision investigation was launched overnight. Police were still at the incident this morning (Monday).
The road, between Bridge Centre Roundabout and Pewsham Way, remained closed at 6am – but reopened shortly afterwards.
Police want hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or anyone who saw or may have dash cam footage of a white BMW or a red Vauxhall Corsa in the area at the time.
