A man breached a police cordon during a fatal crash investigation in Chippenham.

A forensic collision investigation was getting underway in Avenue Le Fleche on Sunday (17 December) when a man chose to walk through the middle of the scene.

Approximately two hours prior to this, a man was struck by a car and sadly died of his injuries.

A crash detective confronted the man about his actions, and he apologised. He hopped over the tape and continued on his way – successfully avoiding a detour.

Not only was the man’s decision plainly disrespectful, he risked arrest and, more importantly, risked complicating the forensic collision investigation by adding marks to the road surface.

Worryingly, he wasn’t the only member of the public to ignore the police ‘do not cross’ tape. A number of people walked into the scene and asked if they could ‘nip through’.

It’s also understood that a number of motorists also drove through the road closures earlier in the evening – only to be given a ticket for the offence.
