A police dog unit was called in to search for a man carrying a weapon in north Wiltshire last night.

Wiltshire Police were called to reports of the man brandishing an axe in the Royal Wootton Bassett area at 10.15pm, sparking a call for assistance from the nearest dog unit.

Police officers then located the suspect in Everleigh Road, where he was arrested on suspicion of threats to kill. It is not clear whether he was in possession of the axe at the time of his arrest.

The man, in his 20s, remains in custody at Gablecross Police Station.
