A man who was arrested on suspicion of drink driving at a crash scene this morning has managed to avoid a drink-drive charge after he blew below the alcohol limit when he arrived in custody.
The driver blew a positive sample of breath at the roadside when officers were called to a single-vehicle road traffic collision on the A429 near Junction 17 of the M4 shortly before 5am.
The 19-year-old was taken to custody but his specimen of breath measured just below the drink-drive limit, meaning the evidential sample proved negative.
However, the man was reported for careless driving and is being investigated over an undisclosed incident which took place in May.
A police spokesperson said it “was lucky there was nobody else on the road when he crashed”, adding that the evidential sample provided “had slipped under the limit”.
