A Swindon man has been charged with attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm on his girlfriend.
Gregory Alexander Smith, 23, is alleged to have attacked the woman at their home in Purton on Saturday (28 May), causing her numerous injuries – including a stab wound.
Appearing at Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (30 May), the defendant, of Pritchard Close, was not required to enter a plea to the charge due to it being indictable only.
Smith is accused of repeatedly smashing his girlfriend’s head against a wall, stabbing her with a knife, strangling her and pulling her hair during the incident.
Tom Power, prosecuting, said following discussions with defence solicitor Gordon Hotson, he would be content with the defendant being remanded on bail.
Magistrates granted bail, with strict conditions. Smith must not: attend the street in which the woman resides, attend her parents’ home address or contact his alleged victim directly or indirectly.
He will also be curfewed to his parents’ addresses between the hours of 8pm-7am. This will be monitored by a GPS tag.
The case was sent to Swindon Crown Court. Smith will next appear there for a plea and trial preparation hearing on 1 July.
