A man has denied slicing a police officer with a knife during a mental health incident.

Wiltshire Police officers responded to a welfare concern at the address of Daniel Mccabe, in Liden Drive, Swindon, on 8 October last year.

It’s the Crown’s case that the 50-year-old defendant was in possession of knives and put a ten-inch blade through the letterbox when police arrived at the scene.

Concerned he had harmed himself, officers tried to get him to open the door. However, force was eventually used to gain entry and whilst trying to disarm him, police sergeant Adam Whyte is said to have suffered a slice wound to his finger.

Mr Mccabe denied a charge of actual bodily harm (ABH).

A six-hour magistrates court trial was arranged for early September and he was released on unconditional bail.
