Police responding to reports of gunshots in Chippenham found they concerning noises were coming from a Civil War re-enactment event nearby.
Neighbourhood officers were called to the Monkton Park area over the weekend after concerns were raised about suspected gunfire.
However, Wiltshire Police said the reports were quickly explained when officers found the sounds were coming from muskets being fired at the Battle of Chippenham Re-Enactment.
The incident was one of several officers dealt with while policing a busy weekend of major events across north Wiltshire.
Teams also supported the WOMAD Festival at Neston Park and the Calne Bike Meet, with the three events attracting more than 30,000 people between them.
Police said there were very few reported problems despite the large crowds.
During the weekend, local officers also attended a road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a car in Calne, while supporting WOMAD organisers and security staff with road safety concerns, reports of missing children and several minor crime incidents.
The force said the weekend demonstrated the value of neighbourhood teams working together across the policing area, allowing officers to maintain a visible presence at major events while continuing to respond to incidents.
The force also thanked everyone who attended the events responsibly, along with organisers, volunteers, emergency services and partner agencies who helped ensure the weekend was a success.
