A man was held a gunpoint after police were called to reports of a suspect with a firearm in Swindon.

Wiltshire Police responded to the sighting in the Queens Drive and Buckhurst Field area at around 10.15pm last night (17 October).

A spokesperson for the force said: “At around 10.15pm last night (17/10) we received a report from a member of the public about a sighting of what may have been a firearm in the Queens Drive area of Swindon.

“Nobody was injured in the incident, but due to the nature of the report, officers, including armed police, were deployed to carry out a thorough search.

“They stopped and searched a number of people in the area, but no weapon was located and no arrests were made.

“We understand that due to recent events in Swindon members of the public may be feeling alarmed, but please be reassured that our officers responded swiftly. We would always encourage people to report their suspicions to us so we can carry out detailed enquiries.”
