The M4 in Wiltshire has been closed by police after a serious road traffic collision.

Emergency services are dealing with a crash over the border on the motorway in Berkshire, resulting in the closure at Junction 15 in Swindon this morning (Thursday).

Thames Valley Air Ambulance landed on the carriageway to provide emergency care at around 10.30am – with one casualty being airlifted to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

A lorry was reportedly involved in the collision, but no further details are known at this time.

Motorists are unable to access the M4 eastbound, and the stretch between Hungerford and Swindon is likely to remain closed for some hours.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “The M4 is closed at junction 15 Eastbound due to a serious collision between Membury services and junction 14.

“Our colleagues [Thames Valley Police Roads Policing] are dealing with the incident.”

A spokesperson for National Highways said: “The M4 is closed eastbound between Junction 15 (Marlborough) and Junction 15 (Marlborough) 14 (Hungerford) due to a collision.

“Thames Valley Police are in attendance.”
