The M4 near Wiltshire is closed both ways due to a horse in the carriageway.
Police were called to the motorway between junctions 12 and 13, east of Swindon, at around 10am this morning (Thursday).
A loose horse was found in the road, sparking a full closure. National Highways say the horse’s safety is the main priority.
A spokesperson said: “Both directions of the M4 between Junctions 12 and 13 remain closed after a loose horse was located on the carriageway.
“Thames Valley Police and Traffic Officers are on scene working to identify the animal’s owner and determine the safest way to remove it, with the horse’s welfare being treated as a priority throughout.
“The closure remains in place as a precaution while the situation is managed, and motorists are advised to avoid the area until the motorway can be safely reopened.”
