UPDATE: Abandoned car causes crash on M4 before driver run over nearby

The M4 closed in Wiltshire as emergency services attend a serious crash this evening (Thursday).

The road traffic collision happened on the eastbound slip-road for Leigh Delamere Services at around 7.45pm.

One person has sustained significant injuries and is being treated by Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance medics.

A separate collision — which is linked — happened on the eastbound carriageway prior.

The motorway is closed in both directions between junctions 17 and 18, with the National Police Air Service helicopter circling the area.

Several fire crew, many police officers and ambulance crews are in attendance.

The motorway is likely to remain shut until Friday morning (7 March). Check before you travel tomorrow.

In a short statement, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Please be advised that the M4 between junction 18 for Bath and 17 for Chippenham is closed in both directions due to a serious RTC.

“The road is likely to be closed for several hours. Please find alternative routes.”
