Longleat has today confirmed that no animals were involved in the fire last night.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service sent one fire crew from Warminster to the scene at around 10pm, who extinguished a small fire around 250 metres away from the Forestry Offices.

The area, which was smoldering when firefighters left, was left in the hands of park security.

A spokesperson for Longleat told Wiltshire 999s that the bonfire was part of a controlled programme of burning within the forestry area and posed ‘no risk to people or property’.

“Longleat would like to thank the Fire Service for their prompt attendance and assistance in putting the fire out”, the spokesperson added.
