Gloucestershire Constabulary has referred itself to the police watchdog over ‘prior contact’ with those involved in the Lechlade shooting.
A manhunt got underway after a man was shot while in a stationary car in Bulter’s Field shortly after 7pm on Monday evening (20 April).
The victim, a man aged in his 30s, sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to hospital. Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance were among 999 crews on scene.

The suspect, a man aged in his 20s, crashed his getaway car before fleeing on foot – sparking a three-hour search in the area. He was arrested in Fairford at around 10pm.
In an update on Tuesday (21 April), Gloucestershire Constabulary said that the victim remains stable and the suspect remains in custody for questioning.

They also confirmed that a referral was made to the police watchdog, the IOPC, in relation to prior police contact with those involved in the shooting.
They said: “A man remains in custody on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with a firearm being discharged in Lechlade last night (Monday).
“The victim sustained serious injuries, which at this time are not deemed to be life-threatening, and he remains in hospital in a stable condition.
“Due to the early stages of the investigation, we cannot provide further information at this time.
“The force has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to prior police contact with those involved in the incident.”
